New article on NARA FOIA releases

For those interested in the story of the ARC releases in 2017-18, I have a new article on the subject at Max Holland’s website Washington Decoded, based on some recent NARA FOIA releases. I also attempt, perhaps foolishly, to predict what new releases might come out during President Trump’s second term.

Comments and corrections are welcome here or at WD.

NOTE 1: Citation links for my article are not yet up. For those interested, I have a reference page here that collects them all.

NOTE 2: President Trump issued an Executive Memo on 23 Jan 2025 stating his intent to open remaining redactions in the ARC. I will post on this as further details become available.

One brief point re the withholding of tax returns: It seems that Marina Oswald authorized the release of her husband’s tax returns (for 1956, ’58, ’59 and ’62 with 1957 missing) and other information in 1993. But she directed they be released directly to assassination researchers Ray and Mary LaFontaine. They were supposed to then release them to the public. But didn’t. And because they were the authorized parties the IRS cannot release them otherwise. It’s a bit confusing. More information here: https://jfklancer.maryferrell.org/LHOtax.html
    Thanks for your work.

      Steve G,

Thanks for the note! ARC 180-10072-10186 also has some SSA docs related to Oswald’s taxes.

There is more that can be said about the tax records, just based on the metadata. Hope to get around to that later this year. I doubt many of these records will come out soon. Not unless Congress amends the JFK Act.
