[updated 2-18]
I have repeatedly said that there are now fewer than 3000 redacted records in the JFK Assassination Records Collection. Having been challenged more than once on this, I decided to do a complete recount of redactions released in 2022 and 2023.
This note, dating from February 2025, will serve as my final attempt at such a count.…
For those interested, I have a new page on NARA FOIA docs related to the JFK ARC. The page is available here.
There is also a link to the page on the jfkarc.info front page under the section on withholding and releases in the JFK Collection.
The page includes links to the complete NARA email releases, parts of which I cited in my recent article at Washington Decoded, as well as other relevant material.…
For those interested in the story of the ARC releases in 2017-18, I have a new article on the subject at Max Holland’s website Washington Decoded, based on some recent NARA FOIA releases. I also attempt, perhaps foolishly, to predict what new releases might come out during President Trump’s second term.…
Given the large number of files and documents the HSCA requested from the FBI and CIA, one might expect that there would be some confusion and problems in retrieving the right one. Today’s note note looks at one such file that still has a couple of whole page redactions (WPRs), as well as numerous shorter redactions on pages which are present in the file.…
The Mary Ferrell Foundation has posted a new overview of releases and redactions in the JFK Assassination Records Collection (JFKARC) as of 2025. As always, author Rex Bradford is well worth reading. I will have a response to Rex’s article in a few days.…
Today’s note continues our series on whole page redactions (WPRs) in CIA documents from the JFKARC. These redactions were extensive in the 2017-2018 releases, but have been mostly released in 2022-2023. How many are left? Keep reading to find out!
The note today discusses whole page redactions in a single document referenced in the “201 file” for Silvia Duran, a file which I recently discussed here.…
Today’s post is about two mixed up docs in Sylvia Duran’s 201 file. This is definitely a NARA problem, hopefully one that will get straightened out when they repost these ARC records online.
A CIA 201 file is a collection of “biographical” material relating to someone the CIA is trying to keep track of.…
Heads up! More FBI docs have been added to the Mary Ferrell Foundation collection. These docs were previously unavailable online. They date from early in the investigation and offer much interesting detail and atmosphere, well worth a look!
The new additions to the MFF collection are from FBI casefile 89-43, compiled by the FBI’s Dallas field office.…
More ARC docs are up on the MFF website, straight from the vaults of the AARC. The latest additions: over 160 CIA records, including some very interesting docs on Cuban matters.
The new docs at MFF are in two sets: 84 records from CIA’s Latin American Division (JFK-Work Files), and 85 miscellaneous records, mostly from the hard copy JFK records in the HSCA-CIA segregated collection, as well as three docs from the HSCA-CIA staff records, and a handful from the CIA microfilm docs.…
The Mary Ferrell Foundation continues to dig out JFK records from the vaults of the Assassination Archives and Research Center (AARC). The latest find is a box of HSCA docs which fill some gaps and add a deposition from Bruce Solie.
This set of docs comes from several boxes in the HSCA-CIA segregated collection.…
