A minor note on a 2022 release

The 2022 release of 104-10101-10102 is CIA cable DIR 86037.

In 2017-2018, however, 104-10101-10102 is CIA cable DIR 86129.
(e.g. https://www.archives.gov/files/research/jfk/releases/2018/104-10101-10102.pdf)

So something went wrong here. DIR 86037 has ELSEWHERE been released as 104-10290-10029. For example, in 2022!

SUMMING UP: the regular RIF for DIR 86037 is 104-10290-10029. The regular RIF for DIR 86129 is 104-10101-10102. The 2022 release of 104-10101-10102 is therefore an error! Hate this kind of stuff.

To bring things up to date, 104-10290-10029 (DIR 86037) was released again in 2023.

What does this mean for redactions in these two records? Well, 104-10290-10029 is now released in full: no more redactions.

On the other hand, 104-10101-10102 (DIR 86129) was apparently NOT released in 2022 or 2023. Instead, its last release was in 2018. At that point, it still had three names redacted.

This brings up an interesting question. How many records that still had redactions in 2018 saw NO new releases in 2021, 2022, or 2023? An answer is coming soon…
