Oswald docs in the December 2021 releases
This post reviews newly released redactions from documents related to Lee Harvey Oswald (LHO), as posted at the National Archives website last December. Oswald is a key figure in Kennedy assassination documents, and the release of redactions in Oswald-related docs is always worth a close look.

I have not yet posted any notes on the December 15 releases. I may have an article on these elsewhere in the next few weeks, so I will hold off on extended discussion for now. Following is just a quick summary of the records posted on NARA’s website.

December 2021 releases are up at NARA
Just a quick note to say that the December 2021 releases went up today as announced. There are 1,491 files now online, or a little less than a tenth of the remaining redacted records. Unfortunately there is no accompanying spread sheet, so it may take a while to download them all.…

How old are the redacted docs in the ARC?
A frequent claim about documents still redacted in the ARC is that these are all “60 years old.” This is not so. The oldest redacted documents go back to the 1940s, and the most recent redacted document is from December, 1999.
Looking at document age is, of course, another way of judging redactions.…
