President Trump announced yesterday (17 March 2025) that new ARC releases are forthcoming on March 18. He estimated the release page total at about 80,000 pages. I am not running a newspaper here, so I won’t post anything on the new releases until I’m good and ready.
I will note that this page total must mean that CIA is going to release the microfilm version of the Oswald 201 file. This large file takes up 179 records in the ARC, and the updated ARC database actually has page counts for these. Summing these, I get 31,252 pages.
The list of redacted CIA records which I posted last month did not include these. The page count for the records which were on the list, based on the figures in the JFK database, is 44,680. Added together, these two record sets equal about 76,000 pages.
The second list I recently posted, for redacted records from agencies and departments other than the CIA, totals about 30,000 pages. Many of these are very bulky FBI files with only a handful of social security numbers redacted. These are of no use for research and will perhaps not be re-released.
Other records on the second list are more interesting, including documents from the JFK Library, the LBJ library, the Ford Library, and the Church committee. It would be nice if redactions in some of these were released as well.
Anyway, I’ll post on the new releases when I’ve finished sorting through them and have something useful to say.
